About this scholarship

AAUW Career Development Grants provide up to $8,000 to women pursuing short-term, accredited certificate or training programs (not degree programs) that lead to employment or advancement in fields where women are underrepresented. Funds are disbursed in full at the start of the grant term. Applications are reviewed on a competitive, rolling basis and awards are granted annually.

Eligibility requirements

Identify as a woman

Have applied or been accepted to a certificate or training program in a field where women are underrepresented and comprise less than 50% of the workforce

Or currently employed in a field where women comprise less than 50% of senior leadership positions nationally, regionally, or locally, if pursuing executive leadership or management training

Program start date must fall between 2026-09-01 and 2026-12-30

Programs must be offered by accredited or licensed institutions and lead to professional advancement or employment

Hold at least an associate’s degree or higher

Applicants must provide proof of degree and transcripts

Applicants must provide proof of underrepresentation (link showing current percentage of women employed in the field) and cite the source

Applicants must submit proof of program accreditation

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

Not current members of the AAUW Board of Directors

Not employees of AAUW (including paid/unpaid, part-time/temporary employees, consultants, interns, contract employees)

Not current AAUW Review Panelists

Not immediate family (spouses and dependent children) of the individuals above

Not applicants for another national AAUW fellowship or grant in the same year

Not previous national AAUW fellowship or grant recipients (excluding Community Action Grants or branch/local AAUW awards)

Grant funds cannot be used for a degree program or for completing a certificate within a degree program

Applicants recommended for an award whose program differs from that envisioned at application will be disqualified
