About This Scholarship

The Lyons Aviation Foundation offers a yearly aviation scholarship to financially support a deserving young person pursuing their Private Pilot Certificate. The scholarship aims to provide opportunity to those who might not otherwise have the means to pursue aviation as a career path. The minimum scholarship award is $1500, with the potential to cover the entire cost of obtaining a private pilot certificate. Eligibility Requirements

Original Requirements

  • Pursuing a Private Pilot Certificate
  • Must be between the ages of 16-24 on April 25th of the scholarship year
  • Must not currently hold a Private Pilot Certificate- Airplane
  • Must be a US citizen or legal permanent resident
  • Must have good moral character (no misdemeanor or felony convictions)
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English to FAA standards
  • Must be able to obtain a FAA Third-Class Medical certificate (only requested if selected for scholarship)
  • Must commit to using scholarship funds towards their private pilot certificate within 8 months of being named a recipient
