This educational fund scholarship was established by Dr. Valentine Jobst III. His family settled in Peoria in 1859 and founded V. Jobst and Sons Construction Company. The company built many local landmarks, including the original Washington School building on Moss Avenue and Peoria High School, where Dr. Jobst graduated. Dr. Jobst earned honors from the University of Illinois in 1926 and later served as an instructor and political science professor there, with a break to serve as a Major in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. He retired in 1964 and passed away in 1993. This is a one-year scholarship. It is not automatically renewable, but previous recipients may reapply each year.
