Gamma Theta Upsilon (GTU) offers five scholarships to reward academic achievement and service to local GTU chapters. Each scholarship carries an award of $1,000. Applications for the 2026 competition must be submitted by e-mail; required materials include a cover page (template provided), a 1-2 page résumé, a personal essay, unofficial transcripts, and two letters of recommendation (one from the chapter faculty sponsor and one from another geography faculty member or department chair/head). Faculty references should send recommendation letters from their official university email to Dr. Nathanial Trumbull at trumbull@uconn.edu. Applicants should submit application materials (excluding letters) as a single PDF via e-mail to trumbull@uconn.edu.

Affirmation of membership in a local GTU chapter
Submit a cover page using the provided template
Submit a 1-2 page résumé including permanent mailing and e-mail addresses, academic history, academic major/minor, cumulative and geography GPAs, honors received, and affirmation of membership in a local GTU chapter
Submit a personal essay describing (1) contributions to the local GTU chapter and geography-related projects, (2) academic and career plans, and (3) how the scholarship will help the applicant
Unofficial copies of undergraduate (and graduate if appropriate) transcripts (official transcripts required if awarded)
Two letters of recommendation: one from the faculty sponsor of the local GTU chapter and one from another geography faculty member or department chair/head; letters must be signed, dated, and sent from faculty official university email to trumbull@uconn.edu
For the Buzzard undergraduate and graduate scholarships, state that you have been accepted into or are already enrolled in a specific graduate program
E-mailed application packet (excluding recommendation letters) must be submitted as an attached single PDF to trumbull@uconn.edu by the deadline
