Spencer provides internship grants (awards up to $7,500) to employers (practicing risk managers) to hire interns in the risk management function. Employers apply to Spencer for grant funding; students apply directly to funded employers for internship positions. Eligible employers must be based in the United States, Canada, or Bermuda. 2026 application opens August 15, 2026 and closes October 15, 2026.

This grant is given to employers only

Must be a practicing risk manager

Must be based in the United States, Canada, or Bermuda

Internship position must be within the risk management function and centered around meaningful projects or responsibilities in risk management

Administrative tasks should comprise no more than 25% of the intern’s time

Internships must be a minimum of 8 weeks in duration

Grant recipients must confirm the selection of an intern within 90 days of notification of approval or forfeit the grant

Spencer will assist in locating an intern only if employer has exhausted the search process without results

A copy of the intern’s transcript (official or unofficial) and resume must be sent to Spencer to receive the grant funding

All Internship grant funds must be applied to the intern's experience; any remaining funds must be applied to beneficial professional/learning experiences; a final budget is required and partial refund may be requested if funds were not spent appropriately

Grant recipients must submit a final report after the internship; interns must submit a final survey at completion
