About this scholarship

Supports early career investigators working in hypertension and cardiovascular research who show exceptional promise but may be currently unfunded or have limited access to extramural funding. Up to three finalists are selected; finalists present a 3-minute project pitch at the Hypertension Scientific Sessions where one winner is selected. The winner receives a complete Data Sciences International (DSI) 4-animal telemetry system (equipment and hardware) and one complimentary ticket to the Council on Hypertension Awards banquet; finalists and winner receive an engraved plaque.

Eligibility requirements

12 listed

Must be a member of the Council on Hypertension or Council on the Kidney in Cardiovascular Disease at the time of application

Professional Membership with the American Heart Association and affiliation with the Council on Hypertension are required

Must be active in research and still be in training as an undergraduate or pre-doctoral student OR active in research and within 10 years of completing medical fellowship, terminal degree, or highest certificate as of the award application date

Applicants currently owning a DSI 4-animal telemetry system are not eligible

Must have a minimum of 75% protected research time

If not currently funded, applicant must be working in collaboration with a senior mentor active in hypertension or cardiovascular research

Researchers who have funding similar to an R01 (or equivalent), or in excess of $300,000/year in direct costs are ineligible

Previous winners are not eligible to re-enter in subsequent years

Early Career Investigators may apply for other abstract-based awards but may only be selected for one award per meeting

Previous members of the Trainee Advocacy Committee are eligible to apply immediately after the end of their term

Selected finalists must present a 3-minute project pitch at Hypertension Scientific Sessions

Applicants must submit an abstract to Hypertension Scientific Sessions (deadline June 24, 2026) to be considered
